La Zavelenberg a Berchem-Sainte-Agathe è ancora un residuo della campagna di Bruxelles. Il terreno ha mantenuto la sua struttura con siepi, recinzioni e alberi. La topografia irregolare della Zavelenberg è dovuta all'estrazione della calce nei tempi medievali.
La cima della Zavelenberg è una collina boscosa. La rapida urbanizzazione di Berchem-Sainte-Agathe e Ganshoren dopo la costruzione dell'Avenue Charles Quint ha portato a una significativa riduzione del terreno della Zavelenberg, che è stato definitivamente diviso in due in quel periodo. La Zavelenberg è un paesaggio protetto dal 1989 e una riserva naturale dal 1992.
