Il castello di Modave fu costruito dal 1655 in mattoni e calcare su una roccia. Esso consiste in una parte centrale fiancheggiata da due ali sporgenti.
La Salle des Gardes e il portico furono abbelliti con stucchi che rappresentano l'albero genealogico degli architetti.
Lo stucco nel Salon d’Hercule e nel Salon des Gobelins – dal nome dei suoi tre arazzi di Bruxelles – tratta delle avventure di Ercole.
Nel 1706 il castello fu acquistato dal barone Arnold de Ville, l'ingegnere che si occupò della macchina di Marly, con la quale l'acqua della Senna poteva essere elevata fino a Versailles.
Per questo si ispirò alla macchina inventata da Renkin Sualem per fornire acqua alle fontane di Modave.
