Sapevi che Leeuw era un'area eccezionale nel IV secolo? Questa era una zona sassone con leggi sassoni, a differenza della dominanza dei Franchi circostanti. I Sassoni si trovavano più a nord, nei Paesi Bassi e nella Pianura del Basso Nord Germania. La stragrande maggioranza dei Sassoni rimase nell'attuale Germania e resistette all'espansione dell'Impero Franco. La differenza più significativa tra il diritto sassone e quello franco era il diritto di successione, in cui non era il figlio maggiore, ma il figlio più giovane a ereditare l'eredità paterna tra i Sassoni.
