Zarren è un villaggio rurale situato nel centro della provincia belga di West Vlaanderen ed è una frazione di Kortemark. Zarren era un comune autonomo fino alla riorganizzazione comunale del 1971, quando si fusero con Werken; entrambi sono stati però già nel 1977 frazioni di Kortemark. La menzione più antica risale al 1089 come "Villa Sarra". Probabilmente deriva dal celtico "Ser", che significa "in rapido movimento". Il villaggio aveva una connessione con il mare attraverso la golena di Diksmuide. Questa connessione - ora bonificata - è oggi conosciuta come la Valle di Handzamevaart.
