Zarren es un pueblo rural ubicado en el centro de la provincia belga de Flandes Occidental y es una submunicipalidad de Kortemark. Zarren fue un municipio independiente hasta la reorganización municipal de 1971, cuando se fusionó con Werken; sin embargo, ambos ya eran submunicipalidades de Kortemark en 1977. La mención más antigua data de 1089 como "Villa Sarra". Probablemente esto se deriva de la palabra celta "Ser", que significa "corriente rápida". El pueblo tenía una conexión con el mar a través de la ola de Diksmuide. Esta conexión -ahora desaguada- es actualmente conocida como el Valle del Handzamevaart.
