Il mulino di Tuyl si trova a circa 700 m a ovest dell'ex abbazia cistercense di Herkenrode a Kuringen-Hasselt, sul Tuilterdemer, che più a ovest si unisce di nuovo al Demer. A sud si trova l'autostrada Anversa-Liegi e a ovest una parte soppressa della Stokrooieweg.
Il mulino di Tuilt è già stato menzionato come mulino di dazio in un documento del 1083. Gli abitanti di Tuilt erano obbligati a far macinare il loro grano in questo mulino, che nel 1213 fu donato dal conte Lodewijk II di Loon all'abbazia di Herkenrode. Probabilmente il mulino con il territorio circostante era precedentemente utilizzato da un certo Tegnon, vassallo del conte.
