Il sito dell'Abbazia di Forest, la cui storia risale al Medioevo, forma il cuore storico del comune di Forest, insieme al municipio. L'abbazia fu fondata nel 1106 e possedeva molte terre dentro e intorno a Bruxelles. Il sito è stato classificato come monumento storico dal 1994. È un elemento chiave del precedente paesaggio religioso della regione. L'edificio ha un passato affascinante e spesso travagliato. Infatti, fu successivamente colpito dalle epidemie di peste, dalle guerre religiose del XVI secolo, da un incendio nel 1764 e infine dalla Rivoluzione Francese che portò alla sua smantellazione nel 1790. Intorno al 1810, la chiesa abbaziale e il chiostro furono demoliti, lasciando solo gli edifici più recenti progettati dall'architetto Dewez. Attualmente, il sito è in fase di ristrutturazione per diventare ABY, che dovrebbe diventare un centro culturale altamente diversificato.
