Il Woluwe ha origine a Watermaal-Bosvoorde nel sud-est della Regione di Bruxelles-Capitale, all'altezza di Kattenberg a un'altezza di circa 70 m. Le principali sorgenti sono il Karregatbeek, lo Zwanewijdebeek e il Vuilbeek. Al margine della Foresta di Soignes, all'altezza del Rood-Klooster, il torrente si ingrossa fino a diventare un fiume quando l'acqua del Roodkloosterbeek confluisce. Successivamente, il Woluwe scorre nel territorio della Regione di Bruxelles-Capitale attraversando Oudergem, Sint-Pieters-Woluwe e Sint-Lambrechts-Woluwe. All'altezza di Hof Ten Bergaarde-Woluwedal, il Woluwe entra nella provincia di Vlaams-Brabant. Il Woluwe scorre attraverso Sint-Stevens-Woluwe, Kraainem, Zaventem, Diegem, Machelen e Vilvoorde, dove sfocia nello Zenne a un'altezza di 16 metri. La lunghezza del Woluwe supera i 17 chilometri, misurata dalle piscine di Bosvoorde fino alla foce. Il suo percorso è abbellito da molti mulini, tra cui il pittoresco "Lindekemalemolen" a Sint-Lambrechts-Woluwe.
