Sapevi che gli abitanti di Walraversijde erano noti come individui temibili? Oltre alla loro principale attività di pesca, erano anche attivi nel piratare navi. Nel 1404, gli abitanti furono supplicati di non attaccare più navi inglesi. Le città e i leader delle Fiandre non riuscivano a tenere a bada questi rozzi individui. Per le navi mercantili nel canale, era molto pericoloso navigare verso lo Zwin o verso l'Esca. Per avere un po' di impatto su queste persone e cercare di influenzarle favorevolmente, il duca di Borgogna fece costruire la chiesa di Walraversyde con una torre extra alta.
