Storia:
Una chiusa è una costruzione idraulica che consente alle navi di superare questa differenza di altezza grazie a un meccanismo mobile.
Ogni chiusa ha almeno due porte. Quando la nave entra nella chiusa, le porte si chiudono dietro di essa. Aprendo le paratie, l'acqua entra o esce dalla chiusa fino a quando il livello dell'acqua nella chiusa non è uguale al livello dell'acqua del canale su cui la nave continuerà il suo percorso. Allora si aprono le porte anteriori e la nave può proseguire il suo viaggio.
