Historia:
Una esclusa es una construcción hidráulica que permite a los barcos sobrepasar esta diferencia de altura utilizando un mecanismo móvil. Cada esclusa tiene al menos dos puertas. Una vez que el barco ha entrado en la esclusa, las puertas se cierran detrás de él. Al abrir compuertas, el agua entra o sale de la esclusa hasta que el nivel del agua en la esclusa coincide con el nivel del agua del canal por el que el barco continuará navegando. Luego, se abren las puertas que están al frente y el barco puede seguir navegando.
