Nel sud dei cantoni orientali, dalla fine del secolo scorso, è stata installata una serie di parchi eolici. Sul territorio dei comuni di Amel, Büllingen/Bütgenbach, St. Vith e Weismes sono presenti in totale 25 turbine eoliche, che producono insieme quasi 50.000 kW di energia elettrica.
L'installazione delle turbine è stata molto contestata e sono state avviate accese discussioni tra la popolazione locale. Per compensare, sono stati allestiti, tra l'altro, aree come rifugio per determinate specie di uccelli (come il nibbio reale). Attraverso cooperative, i residenti hanno voce in capitolo nei parchi eolici e viene promossa la sostenibilità generale del progetto.
