Sui vecchi municipi o case comunali si sa poco. Nel 1792, la giuria si riunì presso l'osteria 'Il piccolo castello' nella piazza del villaggio, forse lo stesso luogo dell'attuale municipio. Edificio neogotico del 1895, progettato dall'architetto Jean-Eduard Bouwens (Mechelen 1840 – Dendermonde 1897). L'architetto Bouwens fu architetto comunale di Dendermonde dal 1862 e anche insegnante all'Accademia di quella città. Ricevette la sua formazione da suo padre Franciscus-Johannes, che era anch'esso architetto comunale di Mechelen e insegnava all'accademia dove anche Jean-Eduard studiò. Completò la sua formazione a Nivelles e divenne nel 1859 architetto comunale di Diest e direttore dell'Accademia di Diest. Dalla sua mano sono stati inclusi 5 progetti nell'Inventario del patrimonio architettonico.
