Il Forte di Lierre, nella provincia belga di Anversa, fa parte della Linea di Anversa. La decisione per la Linea di Anversa fu presa con la scelta di Anversa come Ridotto Nazionale nel 1859. L'idea alla base era che Anversa fosse la più adatta come ultima difesa fino all'arrivo dell'aiuto da parte degli alleati. Il Ridotto Nazionale sarebbe stato composto da 1) un muro di assedio, 2) una cintura di fortezze e 3) inondazioni. La cintura di fortezze sarebbe consistita in una decina di forti Brialmont in una cintura lunga 18 km da Wijnegem a Hoboken.
