Il 30 novembre 1870, la linea Malines-Terneuzen è stata inaugurata. In realtà, la costruzione di questa linea è dovuta in gran parte a Gustave Eiffel, il padre della Torre Eiffel. Egli ha infatti progettato il ponte completamente in ferro che attraversa l'Escaut a Tamise, lungo il tracciato della linea ferroviaria. Da un certo tempo, i ciclisti e i passeggiatori possono godere del percorso sistemato lungo la ferrovia. Attraversa una natura magnifica, di cui lo Stropersbos (bosco del ladro) è l'elemento principale. Questa foresta di quasi 500 ettari deve il suo nome alle attività notturne che vi si svolgevano vicino al confine e faceva parte della Koningsforeest (foresta del re), dove i conti delle Fiandre andavano a caccia.
