Ophasselt è un villaggio nella provincia belga di Fiandre Orientali ed è una frazione della città di Geraardsbergen. È un villaggio rurale di residenza e agricoltura. Ophasselt è attraversato dalla N8. Il luogo si trova nella regione della Dender.
Le prime menzioni del luogo risalgono al 963 e al 1015 come "Haslud". Nel 11° secolo l'abbazia di San Pietro di Gand e l'abbazia di Verdun possedevano nel territorio dei contratti di affitto. Nei secoli successivi, l'autorità apparteneva ai Signori di Hasselt. Ophasselt era composto da tre signorie nel 15° secolo, ovvero Libertà, Moenebroek e il Villaggio, dove si trovava anche la chiesa. Nel 1661 Ophasselt fu elevato al rango di contea, in possesso di Philip Frans du Faing.
