Ophasselt es una aldea en la provincia belga de Flandes Oriental y un distrito de la ciudad de Geraardsbergen. Es un pueblo rural de vivienda y agricultura. Ophasselt está atravesado por la N8. El lugar se encuentra en la región de Dender.
Las antiguas menciones del lugar se remontan a 963 y 1015 como "Haslud". En el siglo XI, la abadía de San Pedro de Gante y la abadía de Verdún poseían tierras arrendadas en la región. En los siglos siguientes, la autoridad recaía en los Señores de Hasselt. Ophasselt consistía en tres señoríos en el siglo XV, a saber, Vrijheid, Moenebroek y el Pueblo, donde también se encontraba la iglesia. En 1661, Ophasselt fue elevado a condado, en posesión de Philip Frans du Faing.
