La denominazione di questa piazzetta triangolare è legata all'apprezzamento di Benito Mussolini per l'accanita difesa della città durante la Prima Guerra Mondiale: nel 1922 donò alla città di Diksmuide la croce di guerra italiana e il titolo di "Città Eroica". Da qui anche diversi monumenti ai caduti:
Il monumento ai "XII Manitoba Dragoons Canada" con iscrizione: "XII MANITOBA DRAGOONS CANADA FREED DIKSMUIDE DEN 7 SEPT. 1944".
Il memoriale in memoria dei caduti bretoni. Un memoriale a forma di croce in pietra blu su un piedistallo in pietra naturale. Targa in bronzo con testo: "LA BRETAGNE AUX GLORIEUX MORTS DU 241e RI TOMBES SUR LE SOL DE LA VAILLANT BELGIQUE EN 1940".
Un memoriale del 1997 per i prigionieri politici di Groot Diksmuide morti nei campi di concentramento nazisti (1940-1945).
4) Un memoriale del 1984 a Maurice Cornet, morto nel 1945 come prigioniero politico a Recklinghausen (Germania). Scritta: "POSSA IL SACRIFICIO DELLA MIA VITA DARE LIBERTÀ PACE E GIUSTIZIA PER TUTTI PER SEMPRE".
