La basilica di Koekelberg è al quinto posto tra le più grandi chiese del mondo, dopo la basilica di Notre-Dame de la Paix a Yamoussoukro in Costa d'Avorio, San Pietro a Roma, San Paolo a Londra e Santa Maria dei Fiori a Firenze. Oggi la chiesa è principalmente un luogo di preghiera per la pace. La chiesa è ancora utilizzata per celebrazioni parrocchiali o per grandi feste nazionali. Ma la basilica è più di questo. Ha anche una importante funzione culturale. È un magnifico monumento in stile Art Deco, ci sono due musei, mostre temporanee annuali e si può godere di una vista splendida su Bruxelles!
