Engelburg è un comune svizzero del Canton San Gallo, situato tra i fiumi Tannenberg e Sitter. Insieme ad Abtwil e St. Josefen, Engelburg forma il comune di Gaiserwald.
Dal Medioevo al 18 ° secolo, c'erano solo poche fattorie e villaggi in questa zona boschiva "dietro il burrone", ma nessun vero villaggio con una chiesa. Poiché la strada da Schönbüel attraverso la gola del Tüfenbach a San Josefen era ardua, tra il 1768 e il 1770 fu costruita una chiesa separata dedicata ai santi angeli custodi. È così che Engelburg ha preso il nome. Nel 1768/71 Engelburg si staccò da St. Josefen e formò la propria parrocchia nel 1807.
