Engelburg est une commune suisse du canton de Saint-Gall, située entre les rivières Tannenberg et Sitter. Avec Abtwil et St. Josefen, Engelburg forme la commune de Gaiserwald.
Du Moyen Âge au 18ème siècle, il n’y avait que quelques fermes et hameaux dans cette zone boisée « derrière le ravin », mais pas de véritable village avec une église. Parce que le chemin de Schönbüel à travers le ravin du Tüfenbach à Saint-Josefen était ardu, une église séparée a été construite entre 1768 et 1770 et dédiée aux saints anges gardiens. C’est ainsi qu’Engelburg a obtenu son nom. En 1768/71, Engelburg se sépara de Saint-Josefen et forma sa propre paroisse en 1807.
