La località di cura riconosciuta dallo stato si trova a circa 700 m s.l.m. in una zona boschiva. Direttamente presso Grünbach si erge il Wendelstein, un dirupo di quarzite. Nel quartiere di Muldenberg il fiume Zwickauer Mulde è sbarrato per formare la diga dell'acqua potabile Muldenberg. Il punto più alto del comune si trova a circa 842 m sopra il livello del mare sul versante occidentale della montagna Kiel.
I comuni limitrofi sono Muldenhammer, Neustadt, Falkenstein/Vogtl., Klingenthal, Schöneck/Vogtl. e Zwota.
