Klein Rönnau si trova a nord di Bad Segeberg, tra il Grande Lago di Segeberger, il Lago di Ihl e il Lago di Klüth. La strada statale 432 attraversa il comune. Nonostante il nome, Klein Rönnau ha decisamente più abitanti rispetto a Groß Rönnau, che si trova a ovest, ma è più grande in superficie.
Klein Rönnau è da sempre sede di mulini. Un tesoro particolare di Klein Rönnau è il mulino ad acqua sulla Rönnau, che è stato ristrutturato solo nell'autunno del 2001 e ora viene utilizzato come abitazione e spazio per la comunità. Su richiesta e in occasione della Giornata dei Mulini Tedesca, viene effettuata una visita guidata con dimostrazione del mulino azionato da un motore elettrico dal 2004. Ogni ultima domenica del mese si tiene qui un servizio religioso.
