Il distretto si trova sulla riva occidentale del Reno nel cosiddetto arco del Reno. È il più meridionale dei distretti cittadini di Colonia situati sulla riva sinistra del Reno.
Rodenkirchen confina a nord con il primo distretto cittadino Centro, a est è separato dal Reno dal settimo distretto cittadino Porz, a sud confina con la città di Wesseling, a sud-ovest con la città di Brühl, a ovest con la città di Hürth e a nord-ovest con il terzo distretto cittadino Lindenthal.
