Il luogo è stato incorporato il 28 ottobre 1928 e oggi conta circa 8000 abitanti. Sonnenberg si estende verso il nord-est del centro città e forma con esso una zona residenziale continua dopo l'espansione degli edifici. Il nucleo storico della città si trova tra i rilievi del Taunus nella stretta valle del tributario Salzbach, Rambach. A nord-est di Sonnenberg si unisce il quartiere di Rambach.
