Il quartiere di Bochum Grumme appartiene in gran parte al distretto di Mitte e si estende a nord verso il centro città.
Nel 1150 Grumme venne menzionato per la prima volta in un documento, il cosiddetto Urbare, dell'abbazia di Werden come Grumheim. In quel periodo nel comune di Grumme esistevano circa 10 fattorie. Nei secoli successivi, il numero delle fattorie e la popolazione non variarono in modo significativo. Intorno al 1850 Grumme aveva circa 250 abitanti. Con l'industrializzazione, la popolazione aumentò rapidamente.
