I quartieri vicini sono a ovest Roggendorf/Thenhoven, a sud Blumenberg, Fühlingen e Merkenich. A nord di Worringen si trova la città di Dormagen nel distretto del Reno-Neuss, a est – oltre il Reno – si trova Monheim am Rhein.
Il territorio del quartiere è abitato circa dal 500 a.C. I primi coloni furono gli Eburoni, che intorno al 20 a.C. furono sostituiti dagli Ubii. Intorno al 50 d.C. seguirono i Romani e circa nel 355 i Franchi. L'esistenza di villae romane è attestata archeologicamente, ma rimane controverso un castello chiamato Buruncum. La scrittura di Worringen è cambiata frequentemente nel corso dei secoli, si trovano anche: Worunc, Worunch, Woronc, Woring, Woeringen e Wuring.
