Unna è una grande città del circondario e capoluogo del circondario di Unna nella parte orientale della Ruhr nella Renania Settentrionale-Vestfalia. La città media è, per numero di abitanti, la seconda città più grande del circondario di Unna.
Unna si trova a circa 15 km a est di Dortmund, al confine orientale della Ruhr, lungo il Westfälischer Hellweg e quindi nella Hellwegbörde, che si estende tra i fiumi Ruhr e Lippe. Il territorio comunale comprende altitudini che vanno da 65 m a 225 m sopra il livello del mare.
