La città di Aquisgrana, sita in prossimità della trifrontiera con il Belgio e con i Paesi Bassi, sorge in una valle circondata da alture boscose, la valle del Wurm, un affluente del Roer, fiume tributario della Mosa. Per questa sua posizione è la città più occidentale della Germania.
