Lohmen è un comune situato a sud del Landkreis di Rostock, nel Meclemburgo-Pomerania Anteriore. È amministrato dall'Ufficio Güstrow-Land, con sede nella città non appartenente all'ufficio, Güstrow.
Il comune di Lohmen si trova nell'area morenica settentrionale della Piattaforma Lacustre del Meclemburgo, tra le città di Güstrow e Goldberg. Confina con il Landkreis di Ludwigslust-Parchim, ha aree nel Parco Naturale Nossentiner/Schwinzer Heide e nel Parco Naturale del Lago di Sternberger. Nel territorio comunale ci sono diversi laghi, tra cui il Lago Garder e il Lago Nienhäger, entrambi attraversati dalla Bresenitz, e il Lago Lohmer.
