Da qui si ha una buona vista sulla miniera di lignite di Hambach. Hambach (nei comuni tedeschi di Niederzier, Düren ed Elsdorf, Rhein-Erft-Kreis) è la più grande miniera di lignite di RWE. La lignite viene estratta attraverso una coltivazione a cielo aperto. Sul lato nord-ovest della cava si trova la discarica Sofienhöhe, ben visibile dalla direzione di Jülich. Il punto più basso della superficie in Europa si trova ad Hambach: 293 metri sotto il livello del mare. Questo punto si trova 399 metri al di sotto della superficie originale.
