À partir d'ici, il y a une bonne vue sur la mine de lignite de Hambach. Hambach (dans les communes allemandes de Niederzier, Düren et Elsdorf, Rhein-Erft-Kreis) est la plus grande mine de lignite de RWE. Le lignite est extrait par surface. Sur le côté nord-ouest de la mine se trouve la montagne de déchets de Sofienhöhe, qui est bien visible depuis la direction de Jülich. Le point le plus bas au-dessus du sol en Europe se trouve à Hambach : 293 mètres en dessous du niveau de la mer. Ce point se situe 399 mètres sous la surface d'origine.
