La cattedrale dei Santi Cosma e Damiano , nota comunemente come Duomo di Essen o Abbazia di Essen , è la chiesa vescovile della diocesi di Essen e si trova sulla Burgplatz, nel centro di Essen. La chiesa è dedicata sia ai Santi Cosma e Damiano sia alla Vergine Maria.
L'edificio era in origine la collegiata dell'monastero femminile di Essen, fondato intorno all'845 da Altfrid, vescovo di Hildesheim. Il monastero, ricostruito dopo essere stato distrutto durante la seconda guerra mondiale, è una chiesa a sala gotica costruita dopo il 1275 in arenaria. Il westbau ottagonale e la cripta sono parti conservate dell'edificio ottoniano precedente. A nord della cattedrale è annesso un chiostro. Uno dei suoi tesori d'arte più importanti è la Madonna d'oro, nota per essere la più antica scultura a tutto tondo a nord delle Alpi.
