Il faro Oberfeuer Blankenese forma dal 29 novembre 1984 insieme al faro Unterfeuer Blankenese la linea di fari Blankenese per le navi in navigazione verso monte sull'Elba. Il primo faro, costruito nel 1983, è stato in funzione fino al 2020 ed è stato poi sostituito da un altro e demolito, poiché la linea di fari è stata spostata di 500 metri a sud-est nell'ambito dell'allargamento dell'Elba.
Il vecchio faro, alto 40 metri, a strisce bianche e rosse, con una casa della lanterna in acciaio rossa, è stato costruito nel 1983. Si trovava nel Baurs Park sul Kanonenberg, a circa 1.340 metri dal faro Unterfeuer. La casa della lanterna, del peso di undici tonnellate, è stata montata con l'aiuto di una gru mobile. A causa della sua altezza, il faro era dotato di un’illuminazione di ostacolo per il traffico aereo.
