Il Muro di Berlino fu un sistema di fortificazioni attivo dal 1961 al 1989, eretto dal governo della Germania dell'Est per impedire la libera circolazione delle persone verso la Germania dell'Ovest.
Per "Muro di Berlino" si intende, più comunemente, il lungo sistema di recinzione in calcestruzzo, di 156 km, alto 3,6 metri, che cingeva la parte occidentale della città di Berlino, filoccidentale e appartenente alla giurisdizione della Germania Ovest, ampia circa 480 km² e comunemente detta Berlino Ovest, all'interno della stessa città, capitale della Germania Est, quest'ultima comunemente detta Berlino Est.
