Il Hörsel, nel suo corso sorgentifero Leina, è un affluente destro o orientale della Werra in Turingia, lungo 55,2 km, e 64,3 km attraverso la Nesse. Il suo deflusso medio è di circa 6,5 m³/s, di cui circa la metà proviene dalla Nesse, che si immette da destra a est di Eisenach, poco meno di 10 km a monte della confluenza nella Werra.
Secondo la legge sulle acque della Turingia, l'Hörsel, che rappresenta il più lungo e ricco affluente della Werra, ha lo status di corpo idrico di I° ordine e pertanto è soggetto agli oneri di manutenzione del libero stato di Turingia.
