Il Braunschweig-Kolleg è dal 1949 un'istituzione del Land della Bassa Sassonia ed è un istituto di formazione per adulti per il conseguimento del diploma di maturità generale o del diploma di maturità tecnica, che gli studenti possono conseguire in due fino a tre anni e mezzo, a seconda delle loro condizioni.
È stato fondato nel 1949 a Braunschweig con 4 insegnanti a tempo pieno e 50 studenti ed è la scuola più antica di questo tipo in Germania. Nel 1959 il collegio ha preso possesso dei locali dell'Accademia per la guida giovanile della Gioventù Hitleriana, che era stata costruita tra il 1937 e il 1939. Nel 1981 la formazione è stata adattata al sistema di corsi del liceo. Fino al 2001 condivideva gli edifici con la Deutsche Müllerschule, da allora con il ginnasio serale di Braunschweig.
