La stazione di Essen-Altenessen è una stazione regionale nel quartiere Altenessen di Essen lungo la linea ferroviaria Duisburg–Dortmund. Sotto di essa si trova la stazione della metropolitana con lo stesso nome della Stadtbahn Essen.
La stazione è stata inaugurata il 15 maggio 1847 dalla Cöln-Mindener Eisenbahn con il tratto Duisburg–Hamm con il nome di Essen CM ed era quindi parte della linea principale della Cöln-Mindener Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft. Era la seconda stazione nel territorio attuale di Essen, dopo la stazione Essen-Bergeborbeck, inaugurata nel 1846, che all'epoca si trovava in una posizione isolata.
