Già il sindaco e studioso di Chemnitz, Georgius Agricola, nel 1546 nel suo lavoro De natura fossilium, riferisce di tronchi di molti alberi che sono stati trasformati in pietra e continua a riferire del tuff di Zeisig come materiale da costruzione.
