La rovina del castello di Virneburg è la rovina di un castello di altura su un picco di ardesia alto 430 m, circondato dal Nitzbach, sopra l'omonimo comune nel distretto di Mayen-Koblenz nella Renania-Palatinato.
Il castello fu probabilmente costruito nella seconda metà del XII secolo come feudo dei conti palatini. La prima menzione del castello avviene in un atto dell'anno 1192, in cui i fratelli Gottfried e Friedrich di Virneburg trasferirono il loro castello "Vernenburgh" insieme alla contea e a tutti i beni annessi come feudo all'arcivescovo Johann I di Treviri. Questo documento non è pervenuto nell'originale, e la copia del XVI secolo contiene formulazioni che non erano ancora comuni intorno al 1200, il che lo rende una trascrizione errata o un falso.
