La biblioteca universitaria di Kassel – biblioteca statale e biblioteca Murhard della città di Kassel è un sistema bibliotecario a un livello con sei sedi e fornisce ai membri dell'università di Kassel e alla popolazione della Nordhessen letteratura e informazioni.
Oltre ai compiti di una biblioteca universitaria, assolve anche il compito di una biblioteca statale e di una biblioteca pubblica scientifica per la regione.
La tradizione bibliotecaria della biblioteca universitaria fondata nel 1973 risale al 1580. All'epoca, il Langravio Guglielmo IV, detto il Saggio, fondò una biblioteca per i suoi interessi scientifici. La biblioteca serviva fin dall'inizio meno a scopi rappresentativi e più agli ampi interessi di ricerca e istruzione del principe.
