Specialmente in primavera o in autunno, la catena montuosa con le sue variegate foreste di conifere e di latifoglie, piante selvatiche e animali offre motivi molto interessanti. Il Wiehengebirge fa parte dal 1962 del parco naturale "Nördlicher Teutoburger Wald / Wiehengebirge" TERRA VITA. Dal 2015, il Wiehengebirge porta il riconoscimento assegnato dall'Unesco: “Unesco-Global Geopark“.
