Copenaghen è la capitale e la città più grande della Danimarca. La popolazione della città è di 1.181.000 abitanti. Il nome danese della città deriva dalla deformazione di Købmandshavn, che significa "porto dei mercanti", facendo riferimento alla strategica localizzazione della città all'ingresso del mar Baltico, nell'isola di Sjælland. Il nome catalano proviene dal tedesco Kopenhagen. Copenaghen è la sede del parlamento, il Folketing, e della monarchia danese.
I primi segni di attività umana che sono stati trovati risalgono a circa 4000 a.C., ma non ci sono indizi di insediamenti permanenti in quel momento.
