Almazán è un comune e villaggio spagnolo nella provincia di Soria, nella comunità autonoma di Castiglia e León. Con una popolazione di 5411 abitanti, è il secondo comune più popolato della provincia. La località è attraversata dal fiume Duero. Il toponimo deriva dall'arabo المحصن «il fortificato», nome comune nella toponomastica araba.[1] Secondo altri autori avrebbe origini iberiche o basche e significherebbe «nel bosco». D'altra parte, Antonio Moya suppone che l'etimologia sarebbe legata a «melo». [2]
