Il Piloña nasce dalla confluenza dei fiumi Rio Fuensanta e Rio Viao a 43° 21′ 22″ N, 5° 27′ 13″ W, vicino alla frazione di Ceceda nel comune di Nava. Sfocia ad Arriondas a 43° 23′ 20″ N, 5° 11′ 4″ W nel Rio Sella. Il trasporto navale commerciale non avviene sul Rio Sella; tuttavia, il kayak e il rafting sono ampiamente praticati.
