Al centro della Piazza del Museo si trova il monumento eretto all'immortale pittore sivigliano Bartolomé Esteban Murillo, la cui statua in bronzo fu realizzata da Sabino de Medina nel 1864 .
Di fronte alla statua troviamo il Museo delle Belle Arti , dove sono conservate alcune delle opere più importanti di questo pittore sivigliano.
Murillo morì il 4 aprile 1682 e il giorno dopo la sua morte fu sepolto nell'originaria chiesa di Santa Cruz, chiesa scomparsa durante l'occupazione francese; e sebbene in seguito ne sia stata costruita una nuova, il posto della vecchia è ora occupato dalla Plaza de Santa Cruz, sotto la quale, in un luogo sconosciuto, riposano i resti di Bartolomé Esteban Esteban.
