In the center of the Plaza del Museo stands the monument erected to the immortal Sevillian painter Bartolomé Esteban Murillo, whose bronze statue was created by Sabino de Medina in 1864 .
Opposite the statue we find the Museum of Fine Arts , where some of the most important works of this Sevillian painter are kept.
Murillo died on April 4, 1682 and the day after his death he was buried in the original church of Santa Cruz, a church that disappeared during the French occupation; and although a new one was later built, the place of the old one is now occupied by the Plaza de Santa Cruz, under which, in an unknown place, rest the remains of Bartolomé Esteban Esteban.
