Il colle della Colombière, che raggiunge i 1.613 metri, collega le valli di Grand-Bornand e Reposoir, situate tra il massiccio delle Bornes a nord-nord-ovest e la catena degli Aravis a sud-sud-est. Insieme al colle degli Aravis, rappresenta un punto di transito attraverso la catena omonima, ma ha un'importanza secondaria: la gola della valle dell'Arve, che collega Bonneville a Sallanches, offre un passaggio più facile che è anche percorso dall'autostrada Blanche.
