Thann è un comune francese di 8.151 abitanti situato nel dipartimento dell'Alto Reno nella regione del Grand Est. È il capoluogo della "Comunità municipale del Paese di Thann" che raggruppa 13 Comuni per una popolazione complessiva di 22.146 abitanti, secondo il censimento INSEE del 2007.
Secondo una leggenda, la città di Thann ebbe origine da un miracolo attribuito a sant'Ubaldo, Saint Thiébaut, in francese, vescovo di Gubbio. Alla sua morte, avvenuta nel 1160, Ubaldo lasciò tutti i suoi averi ai poveri eccetto il bastone episcopale, promesso al suo discepolo di origini olandesi. Quest'ultimo non si accontentò e prese anche l'anello, ma nell'atto di sottrarlo, tanta era la foga, staccò anche il pollice destro del defunto vescovo. Nascose il tutto dentro il suo bastone da viaggio e scappò.
