Il volo Turkish Airlines 981 era un volo programmato operante dall'aeroporto di Istanbul-Atatürk, in Turchia, con arrivo all'aeroporto di Londra-Heathrow e fermata intermedia presso l'aeroporto di Parigi-Orly. Il pomeriggio del 3 marzo 1974, il McDonnell Douglas DC-10 che serviva il volo si schiantò in un bosco presso Ermenonville, poco dopo il decollo dall'aeroporto di Parigi, provocando la morte di tutto l'equipaggio e passeggeri . Fu al tempo il più grave disastro aereo della storia, superato solamente nel 1977 dal disastro di Tenerife.
